Write 06
BBCi Northamptonshire, Northamptonshire Libraries and Wicksteed Park launched their writing competition Write 06 earlier this month.

Entry requirements are as follows:

  • You have to live or work in Northamptonshire,
  • maximum 1,000 words per entry,
  • maximum three entries per person and
  • the closing date is 16th June 2006.
  • You must enter online (no postal entries). If you haven't got the internet, go to any Northamptonshire public library and use their computers for free.

The Asham Award 2006-7
The UK's leading short story competition for women writers, the Asham Award, with £3,500 in prize money, will be launched in April 2006.

  • Deadline: 31 Jul 2006
  • Twelve winning stories will be published in an anthology by Bloomsbury, alongside specially commissioned stories by prestigious contemporary writers. Winners will also receive advice from novelist Kate Pullinger, editor of the third and fourth Asham collections, and be invited to take part in a programme of workshops to develop their writing.
  • Stories must be no more than 4,000 words long, on any subject, and must be previously unpublished.
  • The Award is open to writers who have not previously published a novel, or a complete anthology of their work.
  • Entry fee is £10 (£7.50 concessions).
  • The prize is offered every two years, and the Award is the only short story competition whose winners and runners-up are published alongside some of our best known women writers.

Bridport Prize 2006

  • You can enter the competition online.
  • First prize of £5000 in categories of both stories and poetry.
  • Entires cost £6 and payments should be made payable to The Bridport Prize, with the sender's name and address on the back.
