Not Another Day

Julius Chigono’s poems and stories illuminate the everyday worlds in which he lives: the buzzing township, and the rural homestead. He brings a sharp eye to events and encounters, and a ready humour to otherwise bleak situations.

Chingono is a compassionate writer. Many of his characters are facing poverty, or tragedy, or violence, but he gives them hope, and strength. He can inject funerals with farce, and find courage in unlikely places. His acuteness to the many absurdities of contemporary society make him a life-enhancing chronicler of its development.

‘His stories enable you to look at your own society with a detachment that lets you laugh.’ (Shimmer Chinodya, award-winning author of Chairman of Fools.)
