Blinking Eye poetry competition

Entry forms are now available for the 2006 Blinking Eye poetry competition. Funded by Arts Council England’s Grants for the arts programme, it is open to any poet over the age of 50.   Deadline: 07 Aug 2006

This year’s competition will be judged by the acclaimed poet, Jo Shapcott, president of the Poetry Society. Jo has published several collections and won many prizes for her poetry. She teaches on the MA in Creative Writing at Royal Holloway College, University of London and is also Visiting Professor in Poetry at the University of Newcastle and the University of the Arts, London.  Entries to the competition, which closes on 7 August, may be on any theme and in any style.

Organiser Jeanne Macdonald, said: “Last year’s competition attracted over 400 entries – which means around 2,000 poems. This year, I hope to top that figure and I am particularly keen to receive entries from ethnic writers.”

The overall winner will have a collection of their poems published by Blinking Eye and will receive 100 copies of the book. An anthology of commended poems will also be published by Blinking Eye.

Entry forms are available from Jeanne Macdonald, Blinking Eye Publishing, PO Box 549, North Shields, Tyne & Wear NE30 2WT (please send a stamped addressed envelope). They can also be downloaded from the Blinking Eye website at www.blinking-eye.co.uk.
