Route Submission Guidelines

Route have recently published new submission guidelines for short stories.

The Route Book at Bedtime
Apparently, when we get in bed at night, it takes an average of twenty minutes to fall asleep. There are several uses we could put to this time, but occasionally some of us may use those twenty minutes to grab a quick read. The Route Book for Bedtime is looking to put the ideal story into the bed and head of that reader.

What is the perfect tale to bring the curtain down at the end of the day? What words can send someone to sleep in peace and ignite their dreams with magic?

Stories should be no more than 5000 words long.

Route will be very careful about what we ask our readers to take to bed with them. We are not looking for horror, death, misery, depression or vengeance stories. Neither will it be a book of fairy stories either. We are looking for magical and golden nuggets of story telling. The rest is up to you. What is that perfect story? This book will be presented to a general adult readership.

Remember Route is a publisher of contemporary fiction. If you are unfamiliar with our work, it might be worth your while to lay your hands on a title or two from our series of contemporary stories. This is a rolling submission programme and there is no deadline currently attached to this category. We look forward to reading your submissions.

Route are looking for story submissions from writers born between 1 January 1980 and 31 December 1989 for a collection showcasing the most talented of the youth who are set to inherit the world. Stories should have a contemporary setting and reflect the world we live in.

  • Suggested story length between 2000-5000 words.
  • Deadline for submissions: 31 October, 2007.
