Call for Submissions: Short Stories; Tell Tales Volume IV

Submissions for Tell Tales Volume IV: The Global Village are now open. We are seeking original and diverse short stories by UK-based writers, published or otherwise.

Submission criteria:

  • Stories should be no more than 2,500 words in length and should not have been previously published.
  • Stories should incorporate the theme or phrase ‘The Global Village’.
  • Submissions should be sent to or
  • Each story should be double-spaced.
  • Submissions must reach us by: Feb 28th, 2008.

Tell Tales is an independent collective devoted to promoting the short story form and publishing innovative new literature alongside well-known writers. Founded by Courttia Newland and Nii Ayikwei Parkes, Tell Tales has not only published three acclaimed anthologies, we have also extensively toured the U.K. with unique live literature events using our ‘sound-scapes’.

Tell Tales Volume I, edited by Courttia Newland and Nii Ayikwei Parkes and released in May 2004, included authors such as Matt Thorne, Niall Griffiths and Rajeev Balasubramanyam, reached #4 on the best-selling anthologies list and has remained in the Top 200 ever since, making it one of the most consistently ordered anthologies in the U.K.

Tell Tales Volume II, edited by Rajeev Balasubramanyam and Courttia Newland, included contributions from literary heavyweights such as; Orange Futures winner Rachel Trezise, Booker Prize finalist Romesh Gunesekera, John Llewellyn Rhys Prize winner Kamila Shamsie as well as Maggie Gee, who was shortlisted for the Orange Prize in 2002. The book garnered coverage in the Sunday Times, Time Out, the Guardian and on several web-based journals.

Tell Tales III, co-edited by Julia Bell and Nii Ayikwei Parkes (nominated #5 on Amazon charts) included stories from 100-story-guru Nicholas Royle and Pushcart Prize-nominated Kay Sexton.

Tell Tales IV will be edited by Monique Roffey and Courttia Newland.

    What a prolific writer you are. Do you have any books or stories suitable for special needs students 16-19 that you could show me? I could probably get our library to purchase them. I am going to put you on my list of blogs. Your readers might like my stories too!
